This grouping of automotive direct mail pieces were concept pieces I created a few years ago. Over the years, I’ve design many complicated variable-data trifold mailers and these are just a few examples. In these mailers, each image was dynamically dropped into place using complex algorithms and a crazy amount of “if/then” statements. The text was also all variable based on numerous criteria that were defined by the talented team at Bulldog Marketing (now known as Driving Loyalty.)
While I thankfully wasn’t involved in creating the algorithms or complex databases, I was tasked with designing and programming the InDesign document so it could churn through whatever data file we plugged into it.
This process taught me a lot about project coordination, conditional layouts, XML, InDesign, and variable-data-printing technologies.
